the only caveat is that you absolutely want to mill it or loot it away, as this blue creature becomes much more powerful when escaped from your graveyard
There is also the Background mechanic, which seems like a way of fixing Partner as Backgrounds don't do anything unless a commander is on the field
I think they are good enough to make sure whichever Commander is chosen gives me access to those cards
